Gatsby On The Ocean restaurant and catering facility opened Friday, June 7 in the iconic West Bathhouse at Parking Field 3 at Jones Beach.

It has a menu that features artisanal ingredients with dishes prepared by Executive Chef Andrew Helliwell in a new American culinary style. On Thursdays, it offers a special "New York State of Mind" menu highlighted by local ingredients.

Gatsby has wine and beer including ones from New York State. There is live music on Thursdays.

The opening followed a revitalization of the former Marine Dining Room by owner J&B Restaurant Partners.

Joe Vitrano, J&B Restaurant Partners president, spoke at an opening event attended by park officials.

“We are thrilled to bring the state’s vision to life for this exquisite property with Gatsby on the Ocean. Our concept was carefully curated to highlight the 1930s aesthetic while offering an exceptional culinary and social experience," he said.

“They have presented an exciting vision and have put together a great team and an outstanding menu, as well as, expanded operating hours and services, which will serve our park visitors and their customers well," said George Gorman, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation regional director, at the opening.

Following damage from Superstorm Sandy, the West Bathhouse underwent a $16 million project to restore interior space and reestablish the open, airy connection between the pool and boardwalk from its original 1931 design.

Originally opened in 1931, the West Bathhouse is steeped in Robert Moses-era history, which has been incorporated into the design of Gatsby on the Ocean, said J&B's announcement.

Complete with art deco touches and furnishings, the 5,500 square- foot interior seats up to 260 people, with exterior patios offering views for 75 guests.

For wedding couples, there's a bridal suite and groom’s lounge which were originally used as the offices of Robert Moses who developed Jones Beach.

Most recently The Landing operated there until last summer. Click here for the story.

Gatsby on the Ocean at 2000 Ocean Parkway in Wantagh is open every day for lunch and dinner. Reservations are recommended.
